Registering a Death
In Wales, all deaths need to be registered within 5 days with the register for births, deaths and marriages. Usually a relative will need to register the death, however, if this isn’t possible, the person who was there at the time of death can, a hospital administrator (if the death occurred in a hospital) or the person in charge of making the funeral arrangements.
To register a death, you will need to take the medical certificate showing the cause of death to your local register office if you want to receive the documents on the same day. Registering a death usually takes around 30 minutes and you may need to make an appointment.
A more detailed outline of the required steps can be found here.
